  current projects in art class
been working on two paintings since monday. it's some sort of a "prequel" to our final project. we were asked, um, told to one: paint a picture about anything, as long as we pay attention to composition, value shifts, lalala... and all that crap; two: make a painting inspired by a song or a poem, but keep away from making literal interpretations.

so far, i've finished the open-content painting:

ganda no? originally, it didn't have that lady in the middle, but on my way out of the studio, i looked up and saw the body plasters we used last semester in my drawing class, i thought the painting would look better with it.

the second i'm having troubles with. see for yourself:

still have two more classes to finish it anyway.

  what you are looking at...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

...is a little piece of pain. the quarter is for size comparison.

last night, i was flossing my teeth. i rarely do that, almost never, and this one time i actually did, a filling came off. i was in freaking pain! i can't eat nor drink, not even breathe in cold air! it was so damn painful.

by seven this morning, iwas already dressed up and on the phone making an appointment with a dentist. they didn't have an opening til 9.15, which i said yes to since i am not gonna let a day pass without this bugger filled in.

half an hour later, i was gobbling down on a burrito and a guzzling two pepsis.

  a break from spring break
spent my break at my dad's place with the kids. spent too much in my canada trip, left me broke to do anything for spring break  went to denver real quick last tuesday to meet granma rosie's sister aunt martha. we picked up a very old picture of the first maes homestead. dad is starting to get gung ho on his research about the maes family, plus he has resources now with his pc and scanner and moi as his personal technician, ha!

went to bent's fort too last thursday. pretty cool place if you're into history and all that. place is kinda creepy though, like being suspended in time way back in the 1890s. plus you don't really see any sign of civilization around the fort save the cars that occasionally swing by. it is sooo out there, that it makes potwin KS look like new york city.

here's some pics:

i'm no photographer, but i think pic i shot is pretty cool. this tree is just outside the fort near this...

...headstone.

a view from top the fort. it really is a small fort, but everyone had a function in this small community. that thing in the middle is a press they use to squeeze out water from buffalo hides which was like the universal currency back then.

they say before, just beyond the river, it was already mexico's territory. they used the arkansas river as boundary.

this is too good to be true.

  amen, done with blackwood farm
took me a while to finish blackwood farm, almost two months! and i'm no slow reader, i remember finishing dan brown's angels and demons in three days.

anne rice is freakingly good, kainis. and the way she ended the novel? pucha, ang galing. it's an end by itself but it is so series-friendly. it's almost demanding that i go ahead and read the next book, blood canticle, which, of course, waiting for me in my crammed bookshelves. sidebar: i need an new one, maybe a bigger one.

to anyone interested in reading the vampire chronicles and lives of the mayfair witches series, lemme make a proposal: read it in order. both series are okay by themselves, they are readable in any order, but i really think continuity (or for accounting purposes, going concern,) is a good binder of the anne rice series.

and here's how you should do it:
start with interview with the vampire, the vampire lestat, followed by queen of the damned, then the tale of the body thief. go on with my favorite memnoch the devil, then the vampire armand and blood and gold.

this is where you stop! there are three more books to read about vampires, but you have to stop here and read the lives of the mayfair witches series: the witching hour, lasher, and taltos. why?

because after reading the vampire chronicles until b&g and all three witch novels, comes the merge: merrick.

merrick mayfair is a witch turned vampire. and reading the above novels will help when you read blackwood farm and eventually, blood canticle, where taltos does a comeback and where the lestat would last be seen.

excited na ako!

  The Killers
Mr. Brightside

I'm coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his-chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, let me go
I just can't look its killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr Brightside

  homework
we were given this homework like two weeks ago, but true to the spirit of procastination, i did all five paintings in one whack.

this is the first painting i did for today's homework. it's jLo's ass. i kinda like that i didn't do the face, but everyone knows that the lady is looking at them. and the background, it's very reminiscent of her versace dress, the one where the neck line is low you can see her navel.

my favorite of the five! it's aaliyah, again. i did this before, with her face right smack in the middle, but i learned composition tends to be weak if the subject is right in the middle. so i did something like you would find in a movie poster.

this needs work, i think. i think i started strong with the sun and the sky but the mountain is kinda iffy. that's why i place that old tree (at least i think it's old). the tree needs works, more branches i guess and it would start to look good.

the CN tower, haha! panget no? but i was really trying to make five paintings. i think it was around 10:30pm when i started with this. it's very much like an earlier painting i did, very phallic, haha!

now this is a mess. but my prof thinks it's good. it's probably the first conceptual art i did for this class. i wanted to make it sort of a pop art the way andy warhol did since i already laid a flat foundation, but i already worked on the values of the bridge, tsaka the colors are too dead for pop art. but then again, it was 2am, so i really just needed to finish this painting

the kids stay out of the picture
The Big Fight:

I'm sorry. I was going to tell you. I started to tell you. And then you were so understanding. And then there were gifts and curled ribbons--

Grace, Grace, bottom line. Do you wanna have this baby with me, or not?

You said I could have more time.

That was before I found out you were sneakin' around behind my back. If you wanna back outta this, back out now. I don't wanna have this conversation again in a month like we did with the cabinets. [MOCKING GRACE] "I like the nickel pulls. No, I like the brass pulls. Oh, no, I like the nickel pulls again." Make up your friggin' mind!

So what you're saying is, if I don't do it tomorrow, you don't want to do it at all?

That's right, Grace. It's now or never.

Well, if that's the case, I guess I have to go with never.

Oh, I can't believe this! This is only the most important thing we've ever done together, and you flake out on me? I don't know why that's surprising. You're a flake!

I am not a flake!

Oh, please. The dinners you blow off, the dry cleaning you forget to pick up, the rent that's late every month, and it's always been this way, Grace. You skipped out on my law school graduation party before I cut the cake. That was a big deal.

It was carrot cake! That's never a big deal!

But I always let it go, Grace, because it's not like we're making a baby or something. Except this time, we're making a baby!

Yes, at the moment you say, the place you say, wearing the clothes you say. You are a control freak! All I asked for was one month, one month to see where this is going.

Oh, let me tell you where this is going. You'll end up hating him in three weeks, because--I don't know, he has a weird chest hair pattern, or he doesn't like watching E! Or he'll end up hating you, because you're too needy. Then you'll fall apart, I'll pick you up, and then, magically, you'll be ready to have a baby!

Wow. So that's what you think of me. Look, I'm sorry that I met someone, 'cause I know how much you hate it when I'm happy.

Oh, that is such a load--

Admit it. You're happiest when I'm miserable. I mean, come on. Isn't that our thing? Because then you don't have to look at how miserable you are.

Shut up, Grace!

But I am not gonna be miserable for you. I am gonna try to be happy, and if you can't deal with that, then you are even more pathetic than I thought!

Get out of here.

Go to hell!

I want you out of here in two weeks! You don't live here anymore.

Thanks to Rob Durfee.
