painting
painting class was great today! we did a critique of the stuff we did for the past week:
we got out early, so i finished stretching my canvas, all i need to do is gesso the whole thing. it feels great to make your own canvas! makes you appreciate more the work that is not there yet knowing you made the canvas with your own chubby fingers. and it is bigger than i thought it would be, 54x54 inches does not sound big but it is after finishing it and standing next to it.
then i sneaked to the studio next door where the intermediate painting students are working. dang, they have good stuff! these people work with oil, and they are really good.
i dunno the name of the guy who made this. he doesn't show up in class too much. he just pops in when they have to turn in something. pretty neat huh?
this one is by eric. he likes shock value in his works. this is actually one of the subdued ones he made:
this one is by nicole. she's a good painter, too. she is into painting the female form. once, she did hermaphrodite painting, and it was pretty good. here's another work she made, and it's huge! note the stepladder on the left:
this is another good one. i forgot her name, though, my bad, considering she helped me in stretching my canvas! anyway, this piece looks simple, but the mere smoothness of her work and the energy it has, it kinda pulls you in into this vortex. she's not done with it, actually, she has another painting about the same size (48x48) which she'll cut through! so it would be a painting on top of a painting. pretty neat concept, i hope it materializes well:
